Montgomery, Alabama - Today Eastdale Mall unwrapped the mall’s two new main entrances for the holidays, completing the first phase of an elaborate expansion project. Giant ribbons and bows were cut by mall and city officials at 8:30am that officially opened the new entrances to holiday shoppers.
As part of the mall’s expansion, a brand new 95,000 square foot JCPenney, the mall’s fifth anchor, is opening in Spring 2005. As a result, two new main entrances have been added. The East and West mall entrances face Atlanta Highway and are located adjacent to the new JCPenney and existing Courtyard Cafes’.
Two unique outdoor colonnade structures, complete with skylights and beautiful landscaping, will lead shoppers from the newly expanded and resurfaced parking areas to a dramatic new anchor court that was added as part of the mall’s expansion. The anchor court features a spectacular fountain, lush greenery, soft seating and new retail space. The new anchor court is adjacent to the The Courtyard Cafes’ and will lead shoppers directly to the Ice Palace and Centre Court, where Santa will be waiting to greet holiday shoppers.
“We’re excited to open the new entrance just in time for the holiday shopping season,” says John Bemis, Senior Vice President, Shopping Center Group of Aronov Realty Management, Inc. “Our beautiful new entrance and entry court will welcome area shoppers to the largest variety of stores under one roof in Montgomery,” he added.
Officials at Aronov state that completing the entrance in time for the holidays was one of the goals of the project. Since ground broke for the mall’s expansion in March of this year, 10,000 tons of concrete and over 10,000 tons of asphalt were poured, over 90,000 square feet of sod was laid, and over 125 trees and 400 perennials were planted. All in preparation for opening the new entrances for the most important shopping season of the year.
In addition to the mall’s expansion and new main entrances, Sears at Eastdale Mall is currently celebrating its grand re-opening following an extensive renovation of its own. Shoppers will find an easier to shop, brighter store that includes new flooring, new lighting, new fixtures, freshly painted walls and a new exterior finish and architectural accents. The renovation also includes an expanded selection of merchandise, including appliances and home fashions as well as a broader array of electronics.
Eastdale Mall is honored to carry-on a holiday season tradition this year by collecting new, unwrapped toys for Toy for Tots through the United States Marine Corp. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their toy donations to the collection bin in the new JCPenney court beginning Tuesday, November 23. Toys will be collected by the Marines and will be distributed to needy children in time for Christmas.
Eastdale Mall continues to be a major contributor to the River Region economy, employing more than 2,000 people. Over $200 million in annual sales is generated by the development which translates to over $12 million in city and county tax revenue. The shopping center is owned by the Aronov, Lowder and William B. Moore families and is managed and leased by Aronov Realty Management, Inc.
